Iyuno is privileged to work with some of the most recognized and influential media companies in the world – but localization goes beyond blockbuster films and premium streaming series. No matter the scale of a project, a good story can transcend its locale and find its voice on the global stage.
This was the case when Danish actor turned filmmaker Julie Agnete Vang (Borgen, Gentleman Jack, The Commune) approached Iyuno to mix her directorial debut at our Copenhagen studio.
“It was an amazing and professional experience to complete our mix at Iyuno’s studio,” said Vang. “The sound and technical setup were spot on.”
The semi-biographical short film, Bloom, was an important story to tell. It follows 80-year-old Niels shortly after the death of his wife of 50 years as he comes to terms with the fact that he has been hiding his true identity from the world.
“Many older people around the world keep their homosexuality a secret, having grown up in a time when it was considered a mental illness or even illegal. These elders deserve a voice in art, to express the pain of not being free to love who they want.”
Vang acted as both writer and director for the film, and leaned into her experience as an actor during the post-production process. “I have worked as a voice actor for many years at Iyuno... I know the studio quite well, and am familiar with their high standards in sound production.”
Inspired by filmmakers like Richard Lanklater, Maren Ade, and Alexander Payne, Vang hopes to “make many films as a director — maybe even abroad."
Iyuno is thrilled to find new ways to collaborate with their creative talent and dedicated to amplifying diverse voices and narratives, fostering creative expression, and giving back to the artistic community by providing state-of-the-art facilities to productions of any scale.
“We can’t wait to see more from her as a director,” said Iyuno’s Sonny Lahey, In House Director (Copenhagen). “We are proud to have helped with the mix, and we wish her all the best with her debut short film.”
Bloom will have its world premiere at Odense International Film Festival this August.
